We all know that the motor is the core component of the fan, and in the motor, the bearing is the core of its core - he supports the rotation of the rotor, reducing the coefficient of friction when the rotor is running.
However, bearings tend to be the most vulnerable and shortest-lived part of the entire wind turbine component. Based on years of maintenance experience, we have found that wind turbine failures and scrapping due to bearing problems account for almost 70%. It is true that manufacturers can extend the life of the turbine by choosing a better quality bearing product, but this often means that the customer has to pay a higher cost. Then, it is possible to extend the service life of the bearing by taking certain maintenance measures when the fan is used.
First of all, according to the bearing surface damage mechanism and characteristics, bearing wear can be divided into the following four types:
1 fatigue wear
Refers to two mutually or sliding friction surfaces, which cause the material to flake off to form pits due to the cyclic contact action, which is the main form of bearing wear failure.
2 Adhesive wear
Refers to the localized metal adhesion of the friction pair contact surface during sliding, the adhesion is destroyed in the subsequent relative sliding, and the wear surface of the bearing surface is scratched, also called the bite wear.
3 abrasive wear
Wear due to surface material peeling due to external hard particles or hard bumps.
4 Corrosion wear
The surface of the friction pair is corroded by acidic substances generated by oxidation of lubricating oil, or surface damage caused by chemical reaction with other media.
In addition to the improper design and manufacturing of the bearing itself and the material defects, most of these wear forms are caused by the failure of the lubricating grease. The use of the fan itself is varied. Different occasions will have different effects on the bearing and its grease, such as oil contamination, oil oxidation, etc., which will often lead to lubrication failure, resulting in additional wear and tear, resulting in bearings and fans. malfunction.
Secondly, after understanding the wear form and main causes of the bearing, it is necessary to prescribe the right medicine in the actual use process, analyze the factors that may affect the bearing grease, and adopt corresponding evasive or maintenance means.
After years of summing up, there are two factors that have a greater impact on bearing grease:
01 Ambient temperature is too high
Bearing grease can maintain a long life at a certain temperature, which is equivalent to its design life, but in high temperature environment, grease will accelerate aging. In general, the grease life is reduced by 50% for every 10 °C ambient temperature.
In order to reduce the impact of ambient temperature on grease life, it can generally be done by replacing high temperature grease or increasing the motor model. The replacement of high temperature grease can keep the bearing grease at a certain design life at a higher ambient temperature. Increasing the motor model can effectively reduce the temperature rise generated during motor operation, reduce the ambient temperature of the bearing in disguise, and prolong the life of the grease.
02 Sand and dust
Most of the outer rotor fan products have a motor protection rating of IP54. In the previous environmental factors, it has been mentioned that IP54 motors are not completely isolated from water and dust, and are used in some places where sand is severe.
If there is not enough sand control in the ventilation system, it is possible for this dust to enter the inside of the motor. After a large amount of dust accumulates inside the motor, it will adhere to the bearing surface inside the motor and enter the bearing along the bearing gap. Subsequently, the lubricating grease in the bearing gradually reduces the lubricating property due to the infiltration of dust, and eventually loses the lubricating effect completely.
Therefore, when using wind turbines in these places (such as deserts, cement plants, steel mills, etc.), it is recommended to design a dust filter in the ventilation system to minimize the impact of sand and dust on the bearings.
In addition to the above two environmental factors that have long-term effects on bearing grease, the bumps that occur during transportation, storage, and installation, as well as the fan's own weight when the fan is installed vertically, sometimes cause stress unevenness in the bearing. In the case of this, after a long period of operation, this part of the uneven stress will accelerate the bearing to produce fatigue wear. Therefore, as a kind of precision product, the fan should pay attention to protection in all aspects, and gently handle it to avoid unnecessary loss.
