1. Ordinary grinding

Fully synthetic grinding fluid can be used.

2. High speed grinding

Grinding with a wheel speed exceeding 50m/s is usually referred to as high-speed grinding. When the linear velocity of the grinding wheel increases, the grinding temperature significantly rises.

According to experimental measurements, the grinding temperature (average temperature of the workpiece) is 50% to 70% higher when the grinding wheel line speed is 60m/s than when it is 30m/s; When the linear speed of the grinding wheel is 80m/s, the grinding temperature is 15% to 20% higher than when it is 60m/s.

After the linear speed of the grinding wheel increases, the number of abrasive particles participating in grinding per unit time increases, the friction effect intensifies, and the energy consumption also increases, causing the surface temperature of the workpiece to rise and increasing the possibility of surface burns and crack formation. This requires the use of grinding fluids with efficient cooling performance to solve.

So in high-speed grinding, ordinary grinding fluid cannot be used, but high-speed grinding fluid with good permeability and cooling performance should be used.

3. Strong grinding

This is an advanced and efficient grinding process. For example, in high-speed and powerful cutting, a grinding wheel with a linear velocity of 60m/s can cut radially at a feed rate of 3.5-6mm/min, resulting in a cutting rate of up to 20-40mm/(mm · s).

At this point, the friction between the grinding wheel and the workpiece is very intense. Even under high-pressure and high flow cooling conditions, the temperature range of the surface layer of the workpiece in the friction zone can reach up to 700-1000 ℃. If the cooling conditions are not good, the grinding process cannot proceed.

When using high-performance synthetic strong grinding fluid for cutting in grinding, compared with emulsion, the total grinding amount is increased by 35%, the grinding ratio is increased by 30%~50%, the normal grinding time is extended by about 40%, and the power loss is reduced by about 40%. So, during strong grinding, the performance of the grinding fluid has a significant impact on the grinding effect.

4. Diamond grinding wheel grinding

This is suitable for grinding materials with high hardness such as hard alloys, ceramics, and glass. It can perform rough and fine grinding, and the ground surface generally does not produce cracks or gaps, achieving a lower surface roughness.

In order to prevent excessive heat generation during grinding and premature wear of the grinding wheel, and to achieve lower surface roughness, continuous and sufficient cooling is required.

Due to the high hardness of the workpiece, the grinding fluid should mainly have cooling and cleaning properties to maintain the sharpness of the grinding wheel. The friction coefficient of the grinding fluid should not be too low, otherwise it will cause adverse effects such as low grinding efficiency and surface burns. Synthetic fluid can be used as the grinding fluid.

For parts with high machining accuracy, low viscosity oil-based grinding fluid with good lubrication performance can be used.

5. Grinding of threads, gears, and lead screws

This type of grinding places special emphasis on the quality and dimensional accuracy of the machined surface after grinding, and it is generally recommended to use grinding oil containing extreme pressure additives.

This type of oil-based grinding fluid, due to its good lubrication performance, can reduce grinding heat, and the extreme pressure additive in it can react with the workpiece material to generate low shear strength sulfide iron film and ferric chloride film, which can reduce the wear of abrasive cutting edge tips and ensure smooth grinding.

In order to achieve better cooling and cleaning performance, while ensuring fire safety, it is advisable to use grinding oil with low viscosity and high flash point.
