Unexpected equipment failure happens when the bearing is damaged.
Why the roller bearing damages
The bearing is a precision part, so it requires carefulness when using it. Especially comes to the high-performance bearings. If it is used improperly, the expected performance effect cannot be achieved, and the INA bearing is easily damaged. Therefore, the following matters should be noted when using bearings:
Contact fatigue failure
Contact fatigue failure is one of the common failure modes of various roller bearings, which is the failure of the roller bearing surface caused by the repeated action of cyclic contact stress. Contact fatigue spalling on the surface of INA bearing parts is a process of fatigue cracking from initiation to propagation. The initial contact fatigue crack is first generated from the large orthogonal shear stress below the contact surface, and then spreads to the surface to form pitting or flaking. If the initial crack is generated at the junction between the hardened layer and the core, causing early peeling of the hardened layer, it is called hardening layer spalling.
Adhesion and abrasive wear failure
The relative sliding friction between the INA bearing parts causes the continuous loss of surface metal to be called sliding wear. Continued wear will cause the size and shape of the part to change, the bearing fit clearance will increase, the working surface topography will deteriorate, and the rotation accuracy will be lost, so that the roller bearing will not work properly. The sliding wear form can be divided into abrasive wear, adhesive wear, corrosion wear, fretting wear, etc., where is commonly used for abrasive wear and adhesive wear.
The life of a rolling bearing is defined by the number of revolutions (or the number of hours of operation at a certain speed). Bearings within this life are subject to initial fatigue damage (flaking or missing) on any of the INA bearing rings or rolling elements. However, whether in the laboratory test or in actual use, it can be clearly seen that under the same working conditions, the appearance of the same roller bearing, the actual life is very different. In addition, there are several different definitions of the bearing "life", one of which is the so-called "working life", which means that the actual life that a bearing can reach before it is damaged is caused by wear and damage, usually not caused by fatigue, but aused by wear, corrosion, seal damage.
